Brief visit from recently ordained South Island priest

14 Fr Sumich 3

Recently ordained Kiwi priest Fr Daniel Mould, FSSP, celebrated a Solemn High Mass in the extraordinary form at St Anne’s church in Te Atatu on June 24. Fr Mould, 30, who hails from Timaru, was one of 10 priests of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter ordained by Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, on May 26.

The New Zealand priest was back home for a three week visit, and he was aiming to get his US work visa.

He will be stationed in South Bend, Indiana in the US for the first two years of his priestly ministry.

Carrying out the ministries of deacon and sub-deacon at the Te Atatu Mass were New Zealand-born Fr Antony Sumich, FSSP and Brendan Boyce, FSSP.

Mr Boyce, from Hamilton, has just finished his fifth year in the seminary for the fraternity, and will receive the sub-diaconate in February next year.

Fr Sumich said that Fr Mould was the thurifer at his own ordination Mass ten years ago. He added that the high Mass in Te Atatu was “very well attended”, because “all three clerics were New Zealand-born FSSP members”.
