10 Catholic Cathedral College team

Catholic Cathedral College has won the Bishop Lyons Shield for 2019. This
is competed for by Catholic secondary schools in Christchurch diocese, across six public speaking categories.

Catholic Cathedral College, which hosted the event this year, won the shield for the first time since the establishment of the college. St Bede’s College
was the runner-up.

According to Christchurch diocese’s “Inform” magazine, while the competitions were an important part of the weekend, the Bishop Lyons Shield offered an opportunity for students to meet, network and socialise.

Many commented on the great atmosphere throughout the competition and Catholic Cathedral College was a popular and deserving winner.

Category winners were: Impromptu Speech Cup: Brianna O’Connell, Villa
Maria College; Junior Prepared Speech Cup: Daniel Coyle, St Bede’s College;
Senior Prepared Speech Cup: Julio Ilalio, Catholic Cathedral College; Debating: Catholic Cathedral College (Jane Barlin, Thomas Munro, Nadia Roza Luketina). Best speaker: Nadia Roza Luketina, Catholic Cathedral College; Scripture Reading: Tahuora Homona-Burcher, St Thomas of Canterbury College; Religious Questions: Marian College (Rebecca Everingham, The Catholic Cathedral College team Keely Stuart, Emma Pearce).
