Auckland Catholic secondary school speech competition results

10 Sacred Heart Pompallier Shld

Sacred Heart College has won the Pompallier Shield speech competition for 2019.

The team event for Catholic secondary schools in Auckland diocese involves speech and Scripture reading in English and Te Reo Māori.

This year, the venue was McAuley High School in Otahuhu. The event was held on May 16.

According to the Sacred Heart College website, their school’s team “worked well as a unit, supporting each other over the period of preparation leading up to the event. Without that cohesiveness, it falls apart. Congratulations boys and many thanks to teachers Mrs Margaret Ward, Mrs Anne Renwick, Mr Ben Christie and Mr Matt Grevatt for their work in preparing the boys for this event”.

St Mary’s College finished second and St Dominic’s College third.

Category winners were: Junior Speech: Charlotte Crean, Baradene College; Senior Speech: Finlay Samasoni-Tukuitonga (Marcellin College); Junior Scripture: Matthew Curtis (Sacred Heart College); Senior Scripture: Joseph Johnston (St Paul’s College); Te Reo Scripture: Savete Tealikisele (St Dominic’s College).
