St John Vianney House, a home for retired priests in Auckland, is expected to be completed by February 9 next year. Auckland Council of Priests chairman Msgr Paul Farmer, who also chairs the project committee and the fundraising committee, said the construction of an extension is going “extremely well”.
“This has been a very long project in the making and we are all looking forward to its completion,” he said.
The completed project will see seven more priests housed than can currently be accommodated, bringing the total capacity to 17.
“Already there are priests putting their hands up for a place in the completed building,”Msgr Farmer said.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the project.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those priests, religious, people of the parishes and our schools for the very generous way in which they have supported this project,” he said.
“We are still continuing to receive contributions from people. I think all of this giving indicates the love and affection that people hold for their priests,” he said.
