New General Manager for Auckland diocese

Mariette van Ryn

The new general manager of Auckland Catholic diocese is Mariette van Ryn, who has 30 years experience in management, governance, law and banking. She is believed to be the first woman to be the general manager of a Catholic diocese in New Zealand.

Ms van Ryn was most recently a general manager on Westpac’s Executive Team where she held a range of portfolios and served as a director on a number of Westpac’s operating companies.

She was with Westpac for eight years and prior to joining Westpac, she was a partner for 17 years at national law firm Simpson Grierson where she also served as a board member.

Earlier this year, Ms van Ryn was appointed to the board of Milford Asset Management Ltd and is chair of their Audit and Risk Committee.

She is currently a member of the New Zealand Markets Disciplinary Tribunal and is a board member on the Nurture Foundation.

She was educated at St Mary’s College in Ponsonby.

Ms van Ryn is married to Robin Willox, a lawyer, and they have two adult children.

In announcing Ms van Ryn’s appointment, Bishop Patrick Dunn said: “With the diocese facing the challenge of maintaining our existing parishes and schools, while also planning for others, as well as trying to address needs in our wider society and further abroad, we are confident that Mariette will continue to build on the excellent work that Kerry Coleman has developed over the last 15 years.”

Ms van Ryn commenced as general manager at the diocese on August 15.
