The Feast of the Assumption falls on August 15. However, this year it will be celebrated on August 16, and next year on August 14.
The secretary of the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference, Anne Dickinson, told NZ Catholic that the feast is being transferred when it falls on a Saturday and a Monday.
“So three days out of seven it will be celebrated on a Sunday, when most people will connect with it,” she said.
The Solemnity of the Assumption is one of two holy days of obligation for New Zealand Catholics, apart from Sundays.
