CHRISTCHURCH — Catholic families from Christchurch diocese gathered at Waipara, North Canterbury, at the end of September for the second Catholic Family Camp.
Inspired by the Catholic Family Retreats held in Hamilton diocese, and facilitated by the Christchurch John Paul II Centre for Life and the Catholic Youth Team, the camp was an opportunity for families to gather for a weekend of formation, prayer and family fun. The camp theme was “Raising Kids Catholic: Giving them Roots and Wings”.

A workshop was held on the Saturday morning and a supervised pre-school playroom and supervised activities for older children gave parents time to participate as couples. The workshop was led by Celia and John Kennedy and practical experiences of sharing the faith with their children were given by Ruth and Matthew Green, and Erina and Paul Coleman.
Fr Chris Orr was camp chaplain. He celebrated Mass on Saturday and Sunday mornings, was available for Reconciliation and, in addition, had an opportunity to share his thoughts on the camp theme from his perspective as a priest.
Saturday night was “Family fun Night” and there was plenty of time to relax and chat.
