HAMILTON The organiser of 40 days of prayer and fasting focusing on abortion before and after the general election is putting together a round-the-clock prayer network as a follow-up. Sue Rowe, an evangelical Christian from Hamilton, said the whole country was covered for the 40 days, which ran from October 10 to November 18.

Although unsure of exactly how many people took part, Mrs Rowe said 125 cities, towns or districts either had someone local sign up or were adopted by other participants. Supporters included lots from the Catholic Church.

Many hundreds of prayer booklets were sent out or downloaded from the Whistle.org website.
Now she is hoping to get 168 people to each sign up for one hour of prayer a week next year focused on turning New Zealands abortion situation around.

We will keep praying until [MPs] have a revelation and their consciences are pricked, she said.
One of the aims of the 40 days was more pro-life MPs to be elected to Parliament.

Mrs Rowe said the new Government probably has more Christians than the previous one.

But she wonders when it comes to a conscience vote, will they stand up and be counted as pro-life?

She hopes former MP Gordon Copelands Abortion [Informed Consent] Bill will be picked up and sponsored by another MP.

Mrs Rowe, who calls herself a convert to the pro-life cause, believes there is a spiritual connection between abortion and the lack of a religious revival in New Zealand.

She believes many of Gods initiatives in this country have been blocked by the fact of widespread abortion.

But she will keep on believing in God and [that] God will move.
