New Joy Cowley book released

AUCKLAND Joy Cowleys fourth book of reflections has appeared. Entitled Come and See, it is also illustrated with photographs by her husband, Terry Coles. The couples previous three books have been Aotearoa Psalms in 1989 (which has 25,000 copies in print), Psalms Down Under in 1996 (13,000 copies) and Psalms for the Road in 2002 (5000 copies).

We receive orders for them from all over the English-speaking world and all royalties for these three titles, plus Come and See, are used to assist with the support of an orphanage in South India, said Shirley Duthie, general manager of the publisher, Pleroma Christian Supplies.

Of the new book, she said: Pre-publication orders are the heaviest we have ever known for a new title.

Cowley has now been writing for nearly 50 years. Her first published works were short stories and novels for adults, but she has also written more than 600 early reading titles for children.
She has also run writing workshops for people whose culture is not adequately represented in their childrens books in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Brunei, South Africa, Iceland and remote parts of the United States.
