Joint sacraments in Mangere

Mangere kids

On Sunday, May 27, Bishop Patrick Dunn visited St Therese parish, Mangere East, to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation for 57 children from the two parishes in Mangere, St Therese and St Anthony’s parish, Mangere Bridge. All of the children were also to receive Holy Communion for the first time. The children were active participants in the Mass, providing readers for the first two readings and the psalmist, and more children recited the prayers of the faithful.

The service was also a celebration of the multi-cultural nature of St Therese parish, where a multi-cultural Mass is celebrated on the fifth Sunday of any month with five Sundays. The various community groups contribute towards the celebration of the Mass, with music, and using traditional Pasifika methods of demonstrating penance during the penitential rite.
