Holy Cross Charism

Holy Cross Catholic School in Henderson has launched and blessed its new school charism. The blessing took place at the school’s commissioning Mass on February 26. The revision and simplification of the charism followed consultation last year with the school community, students, staff, the board of trustees and parish.

As a result, the school said in a statement, it now embraces the spirit of St Francis of Assisi as its charism, acknowledging the influence and presence of the Capuchin Brothers in the school and community.
St Clare of Assisi has not been forgotten.
The new “living vision” is “With God, we strive for excellence”. According to the statement, the school now has four “living core” values: Faith – Whakapono, Hope – Tumanako, Love – Aroha, and Joy – Harikoa.
The new school crest is described as being symbolic of the Gospel of John 14:6, where Jesus said, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life . . .” and the Peace Prayer attributed to St Francis of Assisi, ”Make me a channel of your Peace”.
The shape of the crest represents the stone tablet on which God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. The crest serves as a visual symbol that Christ is the centre of the school.
