Wellington archdiocese vicar-general Msgr Gerard Burns has been appointed by Pope Francis as a member of the executive board of Caritas Internationalis.

Msgr Burns, who is president of Caritas Oceania, was one of three new appointments to the
board.
Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 165 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations operating in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
On July 11, Pope Francis also announced that Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila was appointed
as a member of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, in addition to his current post as president
of Caritas Internationalis.
Instituted by Pope Paul VI in 1971, Cor Unum is the dispenser of charity in the name of the Holy
Father and coordinates the organisation and initiatives of the Catholic Church’s works of charity.
