Auckland priest appointed Bishop of Samoa Pago Pago

AUCKLAND — The Vatican has announced Auckland-based Redemptorist priest Fr Peter Brown is to be the next Bishop of Samoa Pago Pago.
Bishop-elect Brown, who is regional superior of the Redemptorist Order in New Zealand and a former chaplain to Auckland’s Samoan community, takes up his new position after the retirement of Bishop Vaopunimatagi John Quinn Weitzel, 85, announced recently.
The new bishop worked for many years in Savai’i and is fluent in the Samaon language. He reportedly plans to visit the territory in early June.
