that ought to be respected, in many ways,
including SILENCE in a church for those
who wish to pray ever conscious of the reality
of Eucharist, and the implications. This has
been often ignored.
Garabandal seers had an unusual habit of
walking out of the church backwards to
avoid any irreverence that would occur
in their view by turning their backs towards
the Eucharist in the tabernacle.
Private adoration engenders the cultus
that grows about community which needs
to respect a mystical body of Christ in His
church. One hour is not a hard target to
meet.
Youth are quick to pick up on parental
attitudes, and values.
Religious (mystical) experience reinforces
the Eucharistic mystery and it should be
that the faithful approach Eucharist with
one aim in mind, to enter the mystery.
Priesthood that reinforces this can make
a difference.
Choice of hymns, choice of various elements
conducive to prayerfulness, can enhance, but
also regular dialogue that opens the many
miracles of the Eucharist, which like apparitions
and other permanent miracles (Loreto, La Lajas)
do not appear in the Catholic catechism.
Thus students may never understand that
God is opening the door to them and to
rediscover the mystery.
Once it was mandatory for fasting from
liquids and solids before mass, from midnight
the night before. Then this was broken down to
three hours before, then one hour, then
nothing at all. A loss in prayer also.
Fr R. Garrigou-Lagrange OP. in his work
“The three ages of the interior life” he
shows the importance of fasting in a lead up
(the “purgative way”) to deeper prayer. This
should have been a significant area of every
aspect of Catechesis, if prayer is a consideration.
So while church has discarded, Medjugorje
pilgrims have seen fasting twice a week,
and also Catholic charismatic renewal,
and the mystical has become enhanced again.
Faith is not a good feeling, not like the
approach to a television set, mobile phone,
Instagram, or twitter.
When faithful come to church it
is to their advantage to mutually acknowledge
the value of faith. The miracle of the
Eucharist of Bolsena Italy in 1263 was
observed by Pope Urban, who ordered
St Thomas Aquinas to compose a liturgy,
which is now known as the Corpus Christi
procession. Pope Francis himself was
implicated in the establishment of belief in
the miracle of the Eucharist of Buenos
Aires, which resulted in a book
“A reason to believe” by Willisee
and Tesoriero.
