Our patriarchal hierarchy are entrenched in an outdated monarchical structure. Mary of Magdala was the first witness to the Risen Christ and she was Apostle to the apostles. But patriarchy ignores the example of Christ and instead treats women as less than second class. Change will not come from Rome but from people like Dr Figueroa and many others like her who follow Christ’s commandments and not patriarchal canon law.
